Description
Stretching in every direction including up and down, the catacombs are a series of crypts, tombs, and burial niches where all manner of undead can find refuge and make a home for themselves. Some of the less intelligent creatures simply make a territorial claim on a niche, which are carved 3 to 10 high on the passage walls, offering no privacy.
Off the tunnels are other passages, some with stone, wood, or metal doors leading to larger crypts and tombs, where the more intelligent and functioning undead tend to make their homes. There is no landlord, here in the Unhallowed it is simply a case of claiming and defending what you call your territory.
Background
The catacombs beneath Indian Island predate even the Wiyot Massacre of 1860. Moreover, there appear to have been a massive number of graves and tombs secreted here beneath the surface of Eldritch, each one dustier and older than the last. Although all seemed to have been restful here before the land became Unholy, it is now a thriving sea of undead, who lay individual claim to crypts, tombs, and burial niches to have some sense of ‘home’ for themselves.
The various sorts of undead do tend to congregate in the same areas, so vampires tend to be in one section, while zombies are in another, and so on.
